WHY Wally Hermès: A New Art of Living on the Sea

Have you missed the WHY launch? Ever since the launch of this Wally-Hermèscollaboration in October, we have been avidly following such good taste and avant-garde grandeur. Here is a sight into the yacht that is inspired by the hulls from the Greek age, a yacht that looks like a dream concept but is a whole new reality. And this is not only because it is a living space, similar to a small private island on the sea, but because it can cross the Atlantic four times with no refueling, and is the most environmentally friendly a yacht can be today. Since its launch last Fall all the way to the recent Abu Dhabi Yacht show this past month, the WHY yacht has been proving its timeless and limitless potential.

Wally, the popular shipbuilder from Monaco, joined hands with Hermès founding the WHY brand, team and artistic direction. The new name in yachting boasts fabulous names in the luxury world: Hermès Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Wally President and CEO Luca Bassani Antivari, Hermès Design Director Gabriele Pezziniand Naval Architects Mauro Sculli with Claudio Cicconetti.

Measuring 58 meters long by 38 meters wide, the yacht is not of conventional shape. Neither is its creators’ vision: “Everybody’s dream is to live on an island, in complete freedom, without constraint, with the independence that only self-sufficiency can provide”, Mr Antivari begins when introducing WHY. Surely you can fully justify such spirit when your yacht spreads a living space of 3,400 square meters catered for 12 passengers and 20 crew members.

But more than this, WHY is a green yacht. The boat uses green energy saving about 20 to 30% in fuel consumption and 40 to 50% in electric consumption on board! Air conditioning usually takes up the most energy on board of a yacht, an innovative system exploiting lost electrical and thermal energy on WHY consumes up to 100 times less energy than a traditional air conditioning system. All these performances are achieved through 900 square meter large solar panels producing a daily output of 500 kW.

There is nothing you can desire on board that the WHY boat is not equipped with: three decks, a 25 meter pool, a spa, a helipad, a 100m2 massage room with hammam, sauna, gym and massage room, a promenade of 130 meter, a music room, a dining room, a cinema, sun decks, suites, terraces, a lounge. The decks are connected by stairs but there also is an elevator. The master suite, with an area of 200 square meters, completely covers the third deck. Its sea view is unique and it opens up to a 25 meter large private terrace. The yacht boasts quintessential, tasteful and comfortable luxury throughout.
